Description

VoltGrid is a ~60-second personal project explainer video, self-directed from brief to final render. Smart home energy management is genuinely confusing solar, batteries, peak pricing, feed-in tariffs. This project explores how 2.5D motion design and fluid UI transitions can turn that complexity into something a homeowner instantly gets, taking the viewer from overwhelmed to in control in under a minute. Full pipeline: script, moodboard, style frames, storyboard, animatic, animation, sound design, 4K render.

Brief

The Challenge

VoltGrid's target customers (tech-adjacent homeowners) who've already invested in solar panels, EV chargers, or home batteries were sitting on powerful energy systems they didn't know how to use. Despite the hardware, they remained overwhelmed by high electricity bills, confused by technical utility apps, and frustrated by constant manual tweaking just to see any savings.

The core problem wasn't the technology, it was clarity. Concepts like peak pricing, feed-in tariffs, and battery cycling are inherently technical, and most explanations only deepened the confusion rather than resolving it.

The Solution

VoltGrid needed a way to demystify a genuinely complex energy-routing product in under a minute, without leaning on charts, jargon, or a steep learning curve. That calls for a visual explanation not more text.

Why an Explainer Motion Design Video

VoltGrid's problem wasn't the product — it was how confusing it felt. That called for motion, not more text.
